The 2024 Annual Report for Clarksville Parks & Recreation needed to do more than just summarize the year — it had to tell a clear, compelling story of impact. Every word and page was built from the ground up.
The Challenge
The annual report is more than a year-end recap. It’s how we show the value of our work to the community, city leadership, and potential partners. For 2024, we had major growth across events, programming, and engagement, and needed a report that clearly reflected that momentum. It had to be well-organized, visually appealing, and easy to digest for a wide range of readers, from casual community members to City Council. I set out to create something that told a story instead of just showing numbers.
My Role
I led the full production of the 2024 Annual Report from start to finish. I gathered and compiled the data, wrote the content, designed the layout, created custom graphics, and managed the review process through to final delivery. While I worked with program leads to verify accuracy and used photography captured by our team throughout the year, the report’s structure, storytelling, and execution were fully built by me. The final piece was designed for both print and digital formats, with a focus on clarity, consistency, and visual storytelling.
The Work
The 2024 Annual Report was built from the ground up, with no pre-existing template or copy. I began by compiling data and highlights from across the department, then shaped everything around the report’s central themes: Building Tomorrow and Where Community Comes Alive. The themes guided the tone, structure, and visual style, helping frame the year not just as a summary, but as momentum for the future.
I wrote and edited all of the content, from department overviews and program highlights to impact metrics and internal messaging. The layout was designed to be clean, consistent, and easy to follow, blending clear data visualization with strong photography and narrative storytelling.
To tie everything together, I created a flexible visual system and designed supporting graphics, infographics, and section dividers. The report was prepared for both print and digital delivery, and has since been used in presentations, internal onboarding, and public communications.
The Outcome
The 2024 Annual Report was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from both internal staff and city leadership. The mayor shared it with all department heads as a model for how future reports should look and feel. This was a strong validation of the clarity, structure, and visual storytelling behind it.
City Council members and department staff praised the report for being easy to read, informative, and professionally presented. It’s since been used as a tool in onboarding, community outreach, and leadership presentations, extending its value well beyond a typical year-end summary.
